I like the softness and quality of the drawing, and the birds are amazing.

I do have some crits about the unicorn though, I think the head is a bit off...the horn looks too heavy for the skull and the left ear seems weird too. Also something bugs me about the perspective of the horn.

Yes it was. The movie was based on Peter Beagle's book, and this new collection will be several previously unpublished stories and chapters that he has written.

More deer-ish than horse-ish. It's like going back to the roots of the unicorn myth.

Yes, the deer look was what I was going for. :)

You know puimun, the great thing about your art is how splendid your skills with the pencil are! And you're good at drawing animals. Wow. +7

I second the comment about the head, it does look to me like it needs more work. More expressive eyes, and more harmony to the weight distribution. :)

Your pencil works are always a plesure to my unworthy eyes; IÂŽll have to practice some years to reach a level, that only would be near this standard (your other pencil drawings are even better than this one!)

Already saw that picture of yours on Devart :) I think it's a good illustration. It's somehow funny o.O Lately I see so many Last Unicorn Illustrations o.O Guess I should finally read the book ^^'

Anyway, the shading is really well done. The overall look of the unicorn as well. But I have to say, that the other two comments about the head are right. It's very small and fits to the rest of the body. But the horn is way too large for such a fine head ^^'

Panthera/ Aera >'___'<
P.S. I mena it's funny that I see so many LU-pictures lately XD Not your picture ^^'''

puimun, I'm a huge fan of your work, but I need to put in my two cents about this one. Especially because this is for my favorite book, The Last Unicorn.

First off, like all of your drawings, this is pretty much flawless. However, the spirit of the last unicorn is missing. The story is about great loss and regrets. The unicorn in the picture lacks emotion, a key element that drives the story. For all of us Last Unicorn fans, please find a way breath the sprit of the unicorn into your beautiful sketch

Very nice drawing, but this animal (I don't know its english name -->this with one horn) is the worst part of the sketch. It looks flat very flat. Other things are cute

Very elegant piece - your use of white space (grey space...) is striking and helps with the ethereal, unattainable feeling of the unicorn. Agh, that horn bothers me though; it just skews everything a little.

I bet when Stephanie finally colors this piece (assuming she does plan to color it) the critics would be silenced. Well, most of them anyway. :)

I don't mind critiques. Keeps my inflating head at a reasonable size. :) Anyway, I've just uploaded the color cover image, so I hope that will appease people.

Reminds me I need to work on my owl-pictures...a new tarot deck is in process.

I lov how you just have the simple background that mostly looks like shades and such, and then you have the unicorn on the hill, which is so covered with flowers and plants that is has to be spring or summer, and then you have the owl and birds in the picture too it makes it seem more realistic.

one critique... the horn DOES look a bit too big for the head, it seems like it would be too heavy for the unicorn to hold it's head up so easily

All together a great piece of art keep it up ^_^

Stephanie,

Once again I am under the spell of your magical work. And that the unicorn is by far more stylised and lacking the details, does in my opinion, not disturb the picture as such, as it it undermines the owl as the focal point of attention, which is unusal done this way, but works just fine.
