Description

What else is there to do while idling away the hours in a forest?

Actually, while doing this, it reminded me of this group of old Chinese men who meet down a few blocks from where I live every morning to play Chinese chess. There's always a crowd of them looming over the pair who are playing (of which there are only two or three) and all offering their advice and comments at once.

wonderful! I know how difficult is to paint by watercolours, but it seems you have not problem with it :) Colors are so transparent and gentle.. And subject; playing chess is really gripping pastime.

Bellas -- I use strathmore lightweight illustration board. I can't remember exactly, but I think this was about 17x23 inches big.

Its a beautiful piece, however my eye gets really lost. It gets a bit busy and gives too much to look at all at once. I see that you have some areas faded out to let some of the other parts come forward better, but in the area that is the central focus there are too many things that are the same intensity. You have great control and skill with this medium. Water colors lend themselves to creating a beautiful effect of atmospheric perspective. I can see you used it some here, but the tree creatures face is hard to see. Its like there too much going on all at once in the chess area. The separate characters in piece are stunning, but fighting with each other for importance.

sweet style!~I like it :) Love the bright colors though.

 07/08/04 @690

I like it, I have to admitI agree with Gianna, it is so much to look at but I think that the difficulty in viewing this pic is the fact that it's watercolors, they tend to be very soft and beautiful but pale and distracting at the same time.

It is very beautiful nonetheless.

Avatar Bougal

 07/08/04 @760

I really appreciate the detail and the unique style, but I find this piece (and many of your other pieces) hard to look at for lack of clear focal point. While it is eye candy no doubt, I fear that it's complexity may be it's greatest problem.

a bad cut-out from a great picture...

Avatar insect666

Very nice work! Although some people this fact might bug, I like that there's a lot of clutter in the painting and the eye travels all round the painting without stopping on one central subject. This way the painting has some sort of 'intelectual depth' - the viewer constantly finds new details without having to intentionaly search for them. :)

Avatar f0rk0

 07/11/04 @669

How beautiful! The painting looks as if it's radiating light. Fantastic handling of textures and color.

The amount of detail does not bother me a bit. I like artworks challenging my attention span.
